207 West Hastings Street J.S. Hyler & Son 1906
This was the tallest building in Canada until the Sun Tower was built down the street. The floor plan is actually circular around a central elevator shaft as opposed to L-shaped which was more common for early skyscrapers of this size. The angled corner is what is called a splayed corner. It borders Victory Square between downtown and Gastown. The architect died by stumbling on a staircase in the building. |
