900 West Georgia Street 1928 - 39
Only the steel skeleton of the building stood for many years as construction was halted because of the depression. The massing is very similar to that of the larger Royal York Hotel in Toronto but this building has a much more dramatic chateau roof. It follows the tradition of Chateau style hotels built by the CPR in almost every major Canadian city. Zoning regulations require setbacks at 10 and at 15 floors as can be seen on the side wings. This is also noticable on the Marine Building and the Georgia Medical Dental Building. |
